Yes, at sunrise and sunset, the sky appears red, orange, or pink because the sun is lower on the horizon, and sunlight has to pass through more of the atmosphere. This scatters the shorter blue wavelengths out of our line of sight, allowing the longer red and orange wavelengths to dominate.

The sky appears blue because of a process called *Rayleigh scattering*. Sunlight, which looks white, is made up of different colours. When sunlight passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, shorter wavelengths of light (blue and violet) scatter more than longer wavelengths (like red and yellow). Since our eyes are more sensitive to blue light than violet, the sky looks blue.

Although violet light scatters more than blue, our eyes are less sensitive to violet. The blue light dominates what we see, and that’s why the sky appears blue instead of violet.
